Maury Castro - Minister of Music

Maury A. Castro has served at First United since August of 2008. He most recently graduated from Boston University with the Master of Sacred Music in Organ Performance. While there, he studied organ with Peter Sykes and choral conducting with Miguel Felipe. Previous organ teachers include Richard Clark and Del Case. Before embarking on his studies at BU, Maury completed a year of graduate work in philosophy at Boston College. He also holds a Master of Divinity. Before coming to First United, Maury served as Minister of Music at The Eliot Church of Newton, in Newton, Massachusetts. Currently, Maury is the conductor of the Festival Celebration Choir, a 70-voice ecumenical ensemble based in the capital district. Maury is a member of the American Guild of Organists, serving as the Corresponding Secretary for the Eastern New York Chapter, and is an active member of the The Hymn Society in the United States and Canada.

Maury is ecstatically married to his wife, Kerén, an elementary school language arts teacher. They have three lovely daughters, Delia, Chiara, and Gabrielle.
