On January 5th 2014, the congregation of First United unanimously elected The Reverend Gusti Linnea Newquist as pastor.

Gusti is a poet, a preacher, a teacher, and a lover of souls.

Her previous ministries have included national church service with the National Network of Presbyterian College Women, in Louisville, KY, and parish ministry in Tucson, AZ, and San Antonio, TX.

She completed her Master of Divinity at Harvard Divinity School.

Gusti's mission is to serve a creative, Spirit-led communities that share her commitment to the lifelong Christian journey of spiritual formation and social action rooted in the gospel of Jesus Christ. To such communities, she brings both a loving commitment as a pastor with experience among diverse populations, and a background in a broad range of social ministries and justice advocacy. She is delighted to have found "the perfect match" at First United.  

She also loves hiking, yoga, a hot cup of tea on a cold rainy day, and her yellow lab, Aria.

Gusti was recently engaged to Christopher Beckley of East Dorset, Vermont. They plan to marry in October 2017 at First United, Rev. Jane Adams Spahr officiating.

Office Administrative Assistant 

Kirby Kay is attending The College of Saint Rose in the Master’s of Mental Health Counseling program. 

Kirby Kay and her husband Marshall recently got married on July 23,  2016. She and her husband moved to the upstate New York almost two years ago from Wichita, Kansas to continue Marshall's Military Service with Air National Guard.  

Kirby Kay worked in the Funeral Industry as a Funeral Director for the last 10 years. When she moved to New York she decided to further her career in becoming a grief counselor. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and Management from Friends University. 

In her free time she, enjoys going on hikes in the Adirondacks, reading, and playing with their pride and joy Gus their Great Dane dog.

Kirby Kay feels honored to have the opportunity to serve as the Administrative Assistant at FUPC and looks forward to grow with the community.

Carlie has a BS and a MBA in Accounting from Siena College.

She began serving congregations in Albany Presbytery in 1989 as the Financial Administrator of The First Presbyterian Church of Albany. She has since increased her service to include Westminster Presbyterian Church of Albany, First United Presbyterian Church of Troy, and New Covenant Presbyterian Church of Albany. 

 
Carlie has been a member of St. John the Evangelist Church in Schenectady since 1972 and was baptized at St. Helen's Church. She is also a member of the Rosary Society. She lives in Schenectady, has three grown daughters and five grandchildren.

Nursery Attendant

Elizabeth Rowell is the child care provider in the nursery at FUPC.  Over the past two years she has taught prekindergarten to students in Albany and Guilderland, and today she is a teaching assistant in the Albany City School District. She also enjoys singing in the service on occasion.
