From Phong Thach in Kyrgyzstan!

Greetings: Phong is well and his work is going well. The weather is VERY COLD!

The Air Force has community projects and his group is working in a volunteer capacity with an elementary school about 45 minutes away, covering vacant windows with plastic, providing light bulbs and a heater (there is none). The school is in deplorable condition and with almost nothing to work with. For example, floor boards have been stolen to be used as fire wood. Phong’s group is sponsoring the third grade and asked us to ask at church if folks would like to send school supplies to their effort. The children are beautiful and steal their hearts. We have the month of March to respond to this call, needing to put a package in the mail by about April 1. Look for the basket to put these in. We will also be glad for monetary donations and we will shop to fill in the gaps.

Suggested items are: crayons, pencils, pens, markers, art supplies of all kinds, little chalk boards and chalk, paper of all kinds, picture card games such as Uno, Old Maids, Go Fish, Scan (a matching game), and puzzles with 100 – 250 pieces. Perhaps books with pictures (the children speak Russian) and coloring books suitable for their view of the world. Toys: jumping ropes, marbles, bubbles, - what would you add?

Thanks so much!
